We love our neighbourhood and we love being a part of the community. We have always believed in giving back and made a commitment to do so from the day we opened, but what we really like is the relationships we’ve developed with those we give back to.
OzHarvest is the first perishable food rescue organisation in Australia collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it, direct and free of charge, to 600 charities providing much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children across Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Newcastle and Perth.
OzHarvest is the only food rescue organisation in Australia collecting surplus food from all types of food providers including fruit and vegetable markets, supermarkets, hotels, wholesalers, farmers, stadiums, corporate events, catering companies, shopping centres, delis, cafes, restaurants, film and TV shoots and boardrooms.
A motley collection of Newtown restaurateurs, bar and cafe owners who band together each year for the annual Newtown Festival and donate all profits to the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre. In 2015 that figure amounted to over $10000.
Gunawirra is a not-for-profit PBI organisation made up of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal professionals and specialists working side by side for Aboriginal young women, men and their children from the ages of 0 to 5.
Hartsyard began a relationship with Gunawirra in 2014 when we hosted our first charity dinner, raising over $7000.
