Oh, the sacrifices you make for marble…

By April 18, 2012 No Comments

Today was a big day for the HY fit-out team. Today was the day the marble bar top was due to be delivered.

The marble bar top we very nearly didn’t get on account of the budget.

People have renovated their bathrooms with more money than we have for this entire project.

So prioritising marble over, say, chairs, seemed somewhat risky to me.

Now, it has been known for my fiscally prudent ways to allow me to make some fairly pedestrian choices (I nearly got married in a white nightie which I thought was a cheap dress) so I stayed out of the debate and let Gregory, Tris and Ash fight the great fight for the marble bar top.

In the end, we parted ways with several of the more design-type elements (I hope to meet up with them again soon) so we could indeed, cover our bar in a delightful carrera marble.

And now that it’s here, I’ll willingly eat Tuna Surprise for another 2 years just to pay for the blessed thing. It’s rather fancy, if I do say so myself.

Introducing the HY bar top…

Can’t you just see yourself sitting up there, sipping your HY draft beer that the bar tender slid to you across the smooth surface…mmm. Delish.

One side faces the window. That way if you’re waiting for friends, you don’t have to do it with a dry mouth.

And this side is the service bar, so those pesky waiters don’t have to go into the bar tender’s domain and upset their cocktail shaking karma.

It almost seems a shame, but there are two holes cut into the far end of it. One for rubbish and the other for recycling. The lip at the front will cover the bottles that we’ll fill with water from the in-house carbonation and water filtering system. (Sounds fancier than it is. What it really means is I have bubbles on tap, and we cut down on our recycling, which seems like a good idea).

The groovy wallpaper in the hallway and a super-groovy image on one wall were casualties in the purchasing of this bar top, but we all think it was worth it.

Tomorrow I may wax lyrical about my host stand again. Stand by for updates folks.
