Come December 22, Gregory and I are handing the reins of Hartsyard over to our wonderful and wonderfully talented head chef, Jarrod Walsh. Between you and me, Jarrod and our GM Andrea have been running the joint more or less without us for most of this year, so you won’t even notice the difference.
We have had a glorious time.
7 years ago, the old Gourmet Viking opposite a petrol station, on a busy but barren Enmore Road, held appeal to no one but us. With money borrowed from family and friends who believed in us so much they didn’t even ask if Gregory could boil an egg, & slave labour from everyone we knew, we opened the doors to Hartsyard six furious weeks later. The friends we’ve made through guests, staff & the industry have added such richness to our lives. We are so grateful. The experiences we’ve had, the books we’ve written, the bars we’ve opened, the mistakes we’ve made…we are braver but more cautious, calmer, wiser, more nuanced, more perceptive, so grateful and so, so tired. It’s time.
Jarrod’s talent is immense, but so too is his capacity to lead and teach, to continue the respectful work environment we were determined to create and we can’t wait to belly up to the bar in 2019 and see what his creativity delivers.
Thank you so much for supporting us and now, we hope you’ll support him too.
Catch the last few weeks of Hartsyard Gregory and Naomi style until
Saturday 22nd December 2018.
Jarrod and the crew will reopen on
Thursday 17th January.
Services will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday dinner,
Saturday lunch and Boozy Sunday Brunch from February.
